Road Safey

   Garda Seamus Comes to Visit

Garda Seamus reminded us how to be safe when we are crossing the road. We talked about the importance of wearing our seat belts and encouraging members of our families to wear their seat belts too.
Garda Seamus let us listen to The Safe Cross Code song
He encouraged us to learn the words at school and at home.

We even got to go out and look inside the Garda Van.

Garden Centre Open for Business

Our Garden Centre has opened in Room 11. For the next three weeks we will be

  • Buying flowers and gardening tools.
  • Selling flowers and gardening tools.
  • Growing Flowers and plants.
  • Naming parts of plants and flowers.
  • Discussing what plants and flowers need to grow.
  • Watering our flowers.
  • Making flowers and gardens through arts and crafts and construction with the blocks and Lego.
Here are some pictures of some of the fun things we did so far.

We built some gardens using blocks and Lego.

We pretended to plant flowers in the sandpit during role play.

We planted seeds of cress, tomatoes and peas in the soil.

We placed our pots on the windowsill so that they would be exposed to the sunlight which helps them grow.

Teddy Bear's Picnic

Due to excellent behaviour and being so good in our lines we were rewarded with a Teddy Bears Picnic. The teddy bears really behaved themselves in room 11 and waited patiently to have a picnic with us. We had lots of fun sharing stories about our teddies and introducing our teddies to other teddy bears.

The Estate Agents

We have been very busy in The Estate Agents for the last three weeks. We have been buying and selling all kinds of houses and learning lots of new vocabulary along the way.

In our art lessons we designed some of our own houses.

Fun with Numeracy

The children have been enjoying playing educational Numeracy games on Topmarks. There are some useful games to help with number recognition, ordering and sequencing numbers and addtion.
Why not try some of the games out at home? :)

Our Science Experiment on Light

Last week Ms. Lynch’s class wanted to see if things were transparent or opaque in our classroom.
First we traced a sun on the tissue paper. We found out that tissue is good for tracing because it is transparent.
Next we traced a sun on the paper. We found out that the paper isn’t transparent.
Then we traced the sun on tinfoil. Tin foil is bad for tracing because it is not transparent.

Lastly we used greaseproof for tracing the sun. We found out that greaseproof is good for tracing because it is transparent.
